His true-BOY colors

Last Wednesday, just an hour after Jeff arrived home from being out of town since Monday, Wyatt comes crying into the living room where we were trying to figure out what to have for dinner. He was holding a tissue on his nose, saying his nose hurt. We thought maybe he bumped into a wall or had a "booger" or something. That's when he told us, "Noah's toy is stuck in my nose!" Jeff and I freaked out a little, searching through the massive mess of toys in the family room for exactly what toy was stuck in his nose. It was not visible to us in his nostril until we looked up his nose with a flashlight...with MUCH difficulty! We figured out that it was the rubber stopper from one of those handheld water game toys (a prize from the dentist). And, it was WAY up there.

So, I called a few friends who I thought maybe had been through this before, and should we go to urgent care?? We tried wrapping him up like a burrito and holding him down while I tried to get it with tweezers, but I just couldn't do it. I was afraid I'd either move it further in, or hurt the inside of his quick moving nose.

I ended up calling the pediatrician and talking to her answering service. Usually all about business, nothing personal, the lady took all of my information about the patient's name, age, doctor, and what I was calling about. Then, she surprised me with, "you just have to love little boys!" While waiting for the Dr. to call back, we decided to head out to the Children's urgent care just down the street, packing up both boys and some entertainment. As we were almost turning into the parking lot, our pediatrician calls back and asks me, "What did Wyatt do?" She proceeds to tell me, "Do not go to the urgent care...you WILL get the flu!" So she advised us to go buy some nasal spray and try to get him to blow it out...good luck with a three year old!! If it didn't come out by morning, we were supposed to make an appointment at their office in the morning.

We wrestled with him a few more times before bed, but to no avail. That rubber stopper was stuck! He kept begging us, "just go to doctor." So, the next morning, with the stopper still in his nose, we went to the doctor. I was absolutely dreading what was in store for us, and was sure he would have to be held down by half the staff of the doctor's office. But, somehow, he was completely calm, and did whatever his favorite doctor asked him to do. After some nasal spray, a nurse holding the light, him stretched out across my lap and the doctor's, he laid still and it was out in two tries. He didn't even cry!! We were SO proud of him. We snuggled a little bit, and then our doctor asked if she could have a hug. He ran to her and gave her the biggest bear hug, she kissed his little head and told him she loved him! I just LOVE her!

I always knew Wyatt would be my one for doing things like this...surprisingly, it took this long for him to warrant a trip to urgent care (although I can't say that we actually made it to urgent care!). Now I just hope that whole experience wasn't so fun he would like to do it again!!
