I so hate doing a post like this, but what to do when we've had an eventful last month, and I don't have a lot of time to sit down and post today?? So, here are some of the most important things going on in our lives right now.
- Noah lost his first tooth right after Christmas, and was so happy that the Tooth Fairy found him at Guima and Papa's house! He now has the other bottom tooth loose too!
- We finally went out and got Wyatt his big boy bed. He started sleeping in it on Saturday night (which went terribly), followed by an entire night of sleep on Sunday! Last night didn't go quite as well, although one waking is not too bad. I found him on his way into his brother's room at 3am after turning on the bathroom light, and ALL the lights downstairs, apparently looking for Mommy and Daddy. Funny how he never thought to walk in our bedroom door right across the hall from his room! :) Here's hoping he will stay in bed tonight! The big boy bed has been quite a debate, because he has been so happily sleeping in his crib, not trying to climb out, and playing for a long time in there in the morning. But seeing that he turned 3 over a month ago, the fact that he was still in a crib was making me have major "Mommy-guilt." So, he is in a big bed now! Only problem is, he won't go to sleep without one of us in there...he has never needed us around to fall asleep, even as a baby.
- Probably our MOST exciting news was an update on Noah's allergies. He had his yearly allergist appointment, but this year instead of the prick test, they drew blood and analyzed it. They tested it against all of his known allergens (milk, eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts), and the results were unexpected and wonderful!! His levels for milk and eggs were low enough that his Dr believes he has outgrown them! So, our plan from here is to start feeding him baked goods with eggs for two weeks to watch for a reaction. If that goes well, we move on to baked goods with milk for two weeks to watch for any reaction with that. If that goes well, we try the full fledged dairy products with an ingestion challenge at the allergist's office. So, we feed him some pudding/yogurt/cheese at their office and sit for 2 or 3 hours and watch him for a reaction, hoping no medication will be needed! If all of that goes well, we get to start adding those foods to his diet. He is so very excited to try ice cream, pizza, macaroni and cheese (although I had to tell him what that is!), and Goldfish crackers! A whole new world has opened up to him (since he has never even tried any dairy products in his 5 1/2 years here), and we are excited that we may be able to eat like relatively normal people...something that we've haven't been doing for over 5 years now!! I figured since we had gone almost 6 years without him outgrowing any of his allergies, that he never would. So, I hadn't prepared myself for the possibility of him ever being able to try any of those things! It was a very exciting moment. Even his levels for peanuts and tree nuts were much lower than his Dr expected, which could mean his reaction may not be as severe as we thought it might be. The thought of actually being able to go out to eat or take a family vacation without stressing out about packing ALL of our food is so freeing! And, since Wyatt has only ever been allergic to peanuts, but has had to avoid all the same allergens as Noah up until this point, we are following the same plan for him in adding foods into his diet! Please keep your fingers crossed for us that we may be rid of some of these allergies!
Hope everyone is enjoying the new year, and please forgive me for my lack of posting in the past year! I really am going to work on posting more often this year... :)
